About

Welcome to my astro blog. This is my first blog so you may have to bear with me.

I’m been interested in astronomy for years and have owned a Celestron 8″ SCT for about four years. I have to admit that over the past four years I only used the scope ten or so times as it didn’t have a goto mount and it took me hours to find anything.  Anyway in October last year I found myself in Green witch (my local telescope supplier) and after some excellent advice from Richard and Ralf I walked out with a Skywatcher HEQ5 goto mount. Shortly after the purchase of the mount followed a Meade DSI pro II mono and William Optics 72 APO, a QHY8 ccd camera and various other adapters, power packs etc.

This has turned out to be a rather expensive hobby, although it doesnt really need to be, best advice I can give is to decide on what you want to do (imagining or observing) and then ask lots of questions at either your local telescope shop or Internet forums like stargazers lounge (www.stargazerslounge.com). Everyone I have spoken to over the last few months has been more than happy to share their knowledge and experience’s.

Many thanks have to go to Steve for all the great advice he has given me and for setting up this blog.

Cheers Jon
